The Segers & Balcaen story – 50 years of experience
The 50’s and the 60’s
Segers & Balcaen started its activities back in the fifties with cellophane packages manufactured by artisans, mostly for the textile industry. In this period its founder, the late Mr. Segers (photo to the left), already investigated the possibilities of polyethylene film. It was then decided to switch over to the production of this material.
The demand on the market combined with the keen entrepreneurial spirit to produce films with enhanced value resulted in the acquisition of the first printing machine.
Segers & Balcaen continues to grow on the market of printed film and specialized products. The company becomes the first screen flexo printer in Benelux.
A division for in house extrusion is established. This way the company can respond with more flexibility to the demands of the customers and the S & B team develops a thorough technical know-how in this field. The purchase of a laminating machine allows Segers & Balcaen to offer an even wider range of solutions and provides access to new markets.
From a company initially focused on the local market, Segers & Balcaen has now profiled itself as one of the leading flexible packaging printers in Europe.
The new century
In 2004 Segers & Balcaen acquires SB Diest as a second production plant. Now a multi-site, high capacity operation, Segers & Balcaen is a solid and reliable partner for your packaging needs. Through optimization of production units and organization in both companies, we achieve optimal quality and flexibility for our customers.
Gradually from 2007 onwards, fully integrated prepress with ArtPro, Esko proofing and CDI, and later on Direct Gravure, come into full service by 2010. In extrusion as well, steps forward are made from 2009 with new developments in multilayer films. Lid film and CereBar® are fine examples.
